Sounds of Hope Choir

Singing for Jesus

We are a Christian Community choir formed back in the early part of 2013. Our aim is to bring hope and the good news of God to the people of Basingstoke and the surrounding area through music and song. We sing both Christian and secular music which has a message of hope or is about God

About image
The choir is run on traditional lines, singing in harmony; Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass. We have singers from various different churches in and around Basingstoke with differing musical abilities, all with the desire to sing and to spread the good news of God.

We rehearse on Monday evening at the Basingstoke Community Church Sarum Hill Centre next to the Trinity Church. The rehearsals start at 7:30pm until 9:30pm with a refreshment break during the session. We do work hard during the rehearsals but it is also fairly relaxed.

We sing a fairly wide range of music from modern choral pieces to more traditional items. Once a month we try to visit a Care Home to sing to the residents and also put on two major events, one at Christmas and another during the year. We keep widening our repertoire so that we can make use of opportunities when they come along, for example weddings.

An invitation to become a Patron of Sounds of Hope

We undertake two major events a year in All Saints’ Church, Southern Road, Basingstoke, as well as a couple of street events. In the last two years a choir of about 20 singers has sung at Easter and Christmas in Castle Square Basingstoke, inviting the passing public to join in by handing out song sheets. These events have been particularly well received, with many people staying until we finish.

It is to enhance these events that we would now like to purchase some modular staging. With the choir now 30 strong – and rising - we need two rows of singers. The staging will enable the back row to be raised up so that they can see the conductor more clearly and project their voices more effectively.

We require 8 staging sections to provide an eight metre-wide platform, plus one section for the conductor’s stand. Each section can be used with chairs, or split to give us an even longer line when standing. The total cost of the nine modules, chair stop plates and accessory kit is £3250.

Choir members pay an annual subscription to cover the cost of music, and meet their own travel costs etc. Will you now partner with them in bringing hope and joy into our community, by becoming one of our Patrons? As a Patron you will receive regular updates of what the choir is doing, and advance notice of the various performances.

We don’t set a specific amount for becoming a Patron, but the following table will give you an idea of the level of gift you might consider. The combination of all the gifts listed below will enable us to achieve our target.

If you are a UK taxpayer we can claim GiftAid on your donation, so that the ‘cost’ of your gift is lower – as shown on the table below:

2 Patrons @ £400 each  (or £320 plus GiftAid)
4 Patrons @ £200 each  (or £160 plus GiftAid)
8 Patrons @ £100 each  (or £80 plus GiftAid)
16 Patrons @ £50 each  (or £40 plus GiftAid)

If you would like to become a Patron, please drop me an email at pbsaint@btinternet.com, and I will forward the form required.
Thank you for considering this invitation

We always love to welcome new members into the choir. The ability to read music is not essential, though very useful. You don't need to have choir experience, nor a brilliant singing voice, just to love to sing. Why not come along for a taster to see if you like it with no obligation? If you are interested to learn more about the choir or about joining us, please do just go to our Contact page and enter your details.
